Grumbleton the Wise
Life is a banana. So says Grumbleton the Wise. On first appearance it’s pretty bitter and starchier than you would believe. But when you put the work in, the inside is all sweet and creamy. Unless it’s one of the rotten ones, or the ones that are mostly ok with the black bits that aren’t so great. But you can usually eat around those parts and still have a mostly good time.
Or perhaps life is a small dog. It’s fun to look at, fun to experience and only sometimes pees on your carpet and wakes you up in the middle of the night because you forgot to cc Rick in that email didn’t you?
Ok not that one. But life is certainly like a model train. It’s stuck on a fixed track and circles and circles and circles forever but at least it’s pretty and people don’t usually make fun of you for using up most of your basement for this thing.
No hang on, I got off on the wrong foot there. Let’s try again. Life is like a model train. It’s picturesque and majestic in it‘s fusion of complexity and simplicity. Everything is arranged just so, everything is exactly where it should be. The trees are all precisely the right shade of green, the people are all doing their job exactly on time, and everything flows like clockwork. Except when they make fun of you for dedicating so much time to painting the trees.
Look the point I’m trying to make is that life is like a box of chocolates. Some parts are wonderful and full of dark chocolate and cherries, and some parts are tough papery dividers that you’re probably not supposed to be eating anyway. But you have to accept the good with the bad because waste not want not.
Ok this isn’t going very well but life is certainly like something. Maybe it’s some kind of bizarre strained metaphor that’s hard to wrap your head around or explain, but in the end, when you really get down to it, it’s certainly something.
Is it something worthwhile? Does it have cosmic significance and meaning? Do our actions echo through the grand reaches of time to distant generations?
Who knows… I need a nap
